Merzouga Rally: Farrés 2nd at the sea of sand

  • The HIMOINSA Racing Team overcomes the demanding race with high qualification, finishing with its four riders.
  • Gerard Farrés achieves 2nd position overall finishing in the podium for third consecutive time this season.
  • Antonio Gimeno, Rosa Romero and Dani Oliveras overcome the traps of sand and navigation completing the five stages with no problems.

Sand… the grail of the Rally Raid. Loved and hated, the sand attracts riders as a magnet they cannot escape from: it makes them suffer, catches them on its dunes, gobbles down their bikes, stops their advance up to the goal, punishes his mechanics and gets them exhausted…

A lot of sand!, shouted the riders at their arrival to the bivouac of the Merzouga Rally. A race that has led them to the limit and to which they return every year searching its incredible dunes. In this 2015 edition, the Merzouga Rally has combined the hardest ergs with the navigation traps, well studied by the Organization. Marathon stages and “express roadbook” have spiced this edition that has not disappointed anybody.

The HIMOINSA Racing Team has aligned four of its five riders, and they have overcome this five days of race in the first team performance with its 2015 configuration. Iván Cevantes did not take part after his premiere in the Rally of Morocco and Gerard, Rosa, Dani and Antonio have not failed, reaching the finish line after a great team work.

Gerard Farrés has finished in 2nd position -and already 3rd podium this season- with a minimal difference with Botturi, proving once again his driving quality. From less to more, Farrés has been overcoming day after day his rivals without any navigation mistake and without suffering any mechanical problem. A really strong rider, he is ready for the Dakar.

Great performance also for Antonio Gimeno, finishing in the 9th position and showing once again his excellent condition. Only a small problem with the trip in the 4th stage has bothered this rider, who has squeezed to the maximum the possibilities of his KTM 450 of enduro while he waits for the Rally version he will use in the Dakar.

Rosa Romero and Dani Oliveras have finished the rally at 22nd and 23rd positions respectively without incidents performing an impeccable navigation. The difficult dunes of the race have not been an obstacle for them, adapting his pace of race to the demanding stages and improving technical aspects day after day. A great team work!

Gerard Farrés (@gerardfarres): “2nd in the Merzouga Rally! I am really satisfied! The race has been very nice, very complete and also complicated. I have been recovering time day after day and I have finished very close to Botturi, just a few seconds behind him. I have improved aspects of the bike that gave me more confidence to be able to attack, very useful for the Dakar preparation. It is a great result for the HIMOINSA Team!

Antonio Gimeno (@antoniogimeno_): “2015 Merzouga Rally finished! I have finished three out of three! Last day has been fine, I have started calmly to enjoy the stage and to help Gerard if necessary. It has been a fantastic train with a very good result to all. Now it is time to think about the Dakar!”

Rosa Romero (@RosaRomeroFont): “Everything has been OK, we have finished! Today it has been the last stage, very entertained with many sand. I am very satisfied with the result of the team and with my work with Dani. Now we must continue working for the Dakar.”

Dani Oliveras (@danioliveras_21): “Final day, and perfect! A great success! It has been a race with many sand, dunes, hard navigation and very entertaining, with Rosa we have raced it phenomenal! I am grateful to the whole team for the work made and the way we have overcome everything all together. Great race of Gerard and Antonio! It has been a great train for the Dakar.”
